     Center of Agricultural Information have an assignment to the Division of Geo-Informatics (GI) on cassava field survey during 28 February - March 2024. The tasks are setting for cassava coordinates collection (64 sample plots) for cassava 2024 classification with satellite imageries. The field area survey is located in the west region of Thailand - Khon Kaen, Loei, and Phitsanulok provinces, which are responsibility by ROAE 2, 3, and 4. Additionally, the GI staff have been interviewing farmers to gain the essential on planting information and production situations. The majority are cassava areas; however, there are mixing land use with young plantation areas (~ age 1-2 years). Cassava varieties are Kae Dam, Huay Bong, Kasetsart-80, and Phuang Phet. In the Khon Kaen and Loei, the planting dates begin into two main periods: November-December 2023 and harvest in June-July 2024. Additionally, the other planting dates are March-May 2024 and harvest in February-March in the following year. Farmers normally harvest their production between 8-12 months duration. Cassava’s production is around 3-3.5 tons per rai. The cassava’s price is 3-4 Baht/kilogram. Diseases found the Cassava Mosaic Disease (CMD) and Mealybug. Some areas also face serious droughts, which are planted cassava 1-2 months, and cause structural die. Then, farmers are required to plow their lands and change to plant maize instead in May 2023. Finally, cassava situation and farmer behaviors change by shifting their cultivation. The planting situation is planned to normal this year.
